Project Principles

The following set of principles reflect the values and approaches that are important to us as the project team which—together with an understanding of what's important to the community—will help guide planning and redevelopment of the 740 Handy Road lands.

Community Support

Our ambition is that the project is supported and embraced as a benefit to not only the immediate neighbourhood, but the current and future community as a whole. Neighbourhood values and aspirations will inform the design process to ensure that the end result is a benefit that enhances the community while being a project that the design team can be proud of.

Economic Viability

Economic viability is an essential principle of the redevelopment. A balance must be attained between land use, development, open space dedication, project amenities, servicing and holding costs. The redevelopment team will dedicate ourselves to transparent community engagement in order to enhance the proposal. At the same time, we ask for understanding that the project has finite resources.

Design Integration

We are committed to developing a design that complements the existing neighbourhood fabric while looking to the future potential of Mill Bay. The Official Community Plan policies will influence site planning and building design to ensure a good fit within the neighbourhood and surrounding area.

Malahat Nation

The Malahat Nation represents approximately 359 members with two reserve lands located on the western shore of Saanich Inlet, south of the village of Mill Bay, about 40 kilometres north of Victoria, British Columbia.
